Dental Bone Grafting Brooklyn

Dental Bone Grafting Brooklyn

Gum disease is painless, and many people are unaware they have it.  If gum disease goes untreated it can develop into gingivitis, and if gingivitis is untreated it will develop into periodontitis.  Our Brooklyn dental bone grafting is a great solution to gum disease.

And our dentist, Dr. Marc B. Hertz is the best oral surgeon in the Brooklyn area to treat gum disease.  Bone grafting, also referred to regenerative surgery, recreates bone and tissue lost due to gum disease.  Once gum disease develops, and periodontitis occurs, the bone around your teeth has been lost, however bone grafting will re-grow the lost tissue.

The main goal of our Brooklyn bone grafting is to rebuild the bone and other structures to reattach the tooth to your gum.  Dr. Hertz’s dental practice specializes in oral and maxillofacial surgery, in addition to diagnosing and treating gum disease.  The dental bone grafting procedure begins by Dr. Hertz separating the gums from your teeth to access your tooth bone and roots.  After cleaning your tooth roots, the holes in your jaw bone will be filled with the grafting material.

Although your own bone is best for this dental procedure, other common bone grafting material may include cadaver bone, synthetic glasses or cow bone.  The last step of our Brooklyn bone grafting procedure is stitching the gums back into place.  Within 6 to 9 months your body will regenerate new tissue and bone to fill in the treated area and reattach the tooth to your jaw.

Brooklyn Dental Implant Surgery

One of the most common oral surgery procedures at our Brooklyn oral surgeon office is surgical placement of dental implants.  For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures.  First, implants are placed within your jawbone.  For the first three to six months following surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums gradually bonding with the jawbone.  You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this time.  At the same time, your Brooklyn oral surgeon is forming new replacement teeth.  Whatever your needs are for our specialty Brooklyn oral surgeon practice we want to make your oral surgery comforting and informative as possible.  We serve Midwood and all the surrounding communities including Gravesend, Mapleton, Marine Park and Flatlands.

Sinus Lift Brooklyn

Sinus Lift Brooklyn

Unfortunately for some patients, receiving a dental implant requires a few more steps and procedures with their local Midwood oral surgeon, Dr. Hertz. In order to create a stable and secure foundation for the tooth replacement, dental implants need to be anchored into healthy and substantial bone. It is common that when teeth are removed or are missing for an extended period of time, the patient will experience some bone loss around the site. This bone is a barrier between the mouth and the maxillary sinuses. When the sinus wall is very thin, Dr. Hertz will advise that you receive a sinus lift before attempting to place a dental implant in this bone.

During a sinus lift, our Midwood oral surgeon, Dr. Hertz will enter the sinus from where the upper teeth used to be. The sinus membrane is lifted upward and donor bone is inserted to reinforce the area where bone loss has been sustained. Following a sinus lift procedure with our Midwood oral surgeon, you’ll require several months of healing before Dr. Hertz inserts the dental implant. The placement of your dental implants may involve two surgical procedures after a sinus lift. First, implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first three to six months following the dental implant placement, the implant will gradually bond with the jawbone, stabilizing the dental implant in place. The second phase of dental implant surgery will uncover the implant and attach a small post, which will secure the artificial teeth. These posts will protrude through the gums and will not be seen once your dentist places your tooth restoration.

If you are considering dental implants to replace your missing teeth, be sure to have a consultation with your dentist or oral surgeon in Brooklyn.
