We understand that most dental surgeries from wisdom teeth extractions to dental implants are planned and scheduled procedures with our Bensonhurst oral surgeon, Marc B. Hertz, DDS, PC, but Dr. Hertz is well aware that there are times when unscheduled dental emergencies arise and we still want to be here for you. Many dental emergencies, especially toothaches, happen during the night and if you wake up in pain or have another urgent dental situation, we will make every attempt to see you the following weekday.
We understand that painful or unsightly dental emergencies such as an abscessed tooth, fractured tooth or broken dental crown always seem to happen at the most inopportune times. Aside from the pain it causes, broken teeth and swelling can also make it uncomfortable to leave the house when you may have an important meeting or presentation that can’t be rescheduled. When a true emergency situation occurs, our Bensonhurst oral surgeon urges you to call our emergency phone number for help and instructions. We will do our best to see you as soon as possible and assess the urgency of the situation. We do whatever we can to schedule same day tooth extractions whenever possible in any urgent situation.
Of course, our Bensonhurst oral surgeon urges you to make an appointment with your regular dentist every 6 months to make sure everything is in good shape. Some dental emergencies can’t be avoided but routine appointments with your dentist along with regularly scheduled cleanings will keep your teeth in great condition and a good oral baseline is a great place to start. The best remedy is prevention, and catching problems before they become emergencies is the best way to avoid unexpected costs with tooth extraction or other oral surgery emergencies. If you should find yourself in an emergency dental situation however, don’t delay reaching out to us, and please don’t try to treat yourself at home. Dr. Hertz will explain that teeth don’t repair themselves and there is nothing that takes care of pain as quickly as eliminating the source of it.
